Husky Lodge Safari: Exploring winter wilderness by driving your own dog team, an experience you will never forget! Especially when there is a two day safari to a wilderness cabin without electricity and lunch is made on an open fire. Oulo or Kussamo Airport
After the transfer from Oulu or Kuusamo airport to lodge and check-in to your room, you can enjoy the famous homemade Finnish food.
After breakfast we inform you about the area and the coming week. We provide you with the safari equipment. Opportunity to explore the area and see the dogs and enjoy optional activities.
Today the safari instruction begins and you meet your dogs. After an introduction to how to drive a sled and to the equipment we need during the tour, we leave for a test drive of about 13 km. Every guest leads his own dog team with 4-6 dogs.
Today we drive about 25 to 35 km, the route takes you through the beautiful forest and open swamp scenery, over frozen lakes and along the frozen river. We have lunch around an open fire and return to lodge to where we will have dinner and spend the night.
The 2-day-safari will take you through the beautiful winter scenery. We stay overnight in the simple but cosy wilderness cabin. The cabin has sauna, but no shower, indoor WC and electricity. You look after your own dog team and help preparing the meals. Breakfast and dinner are served in the hut, the lunch at an open fire in the wilderness.
Today you can join a winter activity as mentioned below or explore the surroundings on your own on skis or snowshoes.
After breakfast we pay a goodbye visit to the dogs. Transfer back to the airport for your departure home.
On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day there are special Christmas programs. The New Year’s package includes a New Year’s party in the kota (Lappish tepee).
