Yes, of course! Sweden offers some of the best husky sledding experiences in Europe. Sweden offers vast snow-covered landscapes, frozen lakes and forests that seem endless. Some of the most popular areas for dog sledding in Sweden include Kiruna and Abisko; areas that are known for their stunning winter landscapes and vibrant historic husky sledding cultures.
The best place to go dog sledding in Sweden depends on your budget, available time, and overall interests.
One of the most popular locations for dog sledding is Kiruna, home to Sweden’s highest mountain. Here chances of seeing the Northern Lights are high, and the surrounding area offers a variety of husky sledding tours, ranging from a few hours to several days in duration. Kiruna Airport also makes travelling from the UK relatively straightforward.
Jukkasjärvi (about 30 mins drive from Kiruna) is known for the famous Icehotel, but it’s also a great place to embark on your husky sledding trip. You can combine your sledding adventure with a stay at the Icehotel for a truly unique Arctic experience that you’ll be telling all your friends about! Jukkasjarvi is however much smaller than Kiruna but is equally accessible.
Abisko (about 1.5 hrs drive north of Kiruna) is renowned for its clear skies, making it an excellent place for viewing the Northern Lights. Here, dog sledding tours offer breathtaking views of the surrounding national park landscapes and a quieter and more surreal experience. Being more remote in nature means fewer hotel options, but there are still plenty of options to cater to all budgets. You’ll also need a bit more time given the extra distance needed to travel.
Sweden is a great choice, whether you’re seeking a family-friendly mixed-activity winter break, or an adrenaline fuelled journey across the snow, whether you’re on a budget or looking to splash out! Sweden’s unique landscape ensures an unparalleled dog sledding experiences in an extremely friendly and easily accessible location.
