Itinerary

Day 1Thursday

Arrive at Kiruna airport from where you will be met at the airport and transferred to the kennels where you will be equipped with extra clothes and sleeping bags (or in the morning if arriving late in the evening). Overnight will usually be spent at the kennels base in a simple cabin or it may be possible to continue on to a nearby camp for overnight stay. Dinner.

Day 2Friday

We start the day with breakfast after which you learn to take care of the dogs, sled and harnesses. You will learn the basics on how to handle the dogs and sleds before packing the sleds with all the equipment and setting off on the tour. Everyone will drive their own sled with a team of four or five dogs, following the guide who will lead the way. Today’s destination is approximately 30km away. On arrival at the cabins, we will work together to prepare both the dogs and ourselves for the night – feeding of the dogs, wood chopping and fetching water. We end the day with dinner and well deserved rest!

Day 3Saturday

This morning we start the day by watering the dogs, after which we eat breakfast and then return to base to load everything on to cars and trailers to transfer to either Abisko national park, or Nikkaluokta area. We will overnight at Abiskojaure or Kebnekaise mountain station (the route can be done either way round).

Day 4Sunday

The morning routines are the same each day. Setting off, today we enter the true mountain world with spectacular views. Our destination will be Allesjaure or Sälka, 26 km.

Day 5Monday

The famous Kungsleden (The King’s Trail) starts in Abisko, and this is the route we will be following for the next few days. Our destination for today will be Sälka or Allesjaure a spot well known for its immense natural beauty. This is 30 km with a few uphill sections.

Day 6Tuesday

Our destination for day six is Singi or Vistas chalets. Today’s tour is approximately 26 km, we will be enjoying our last night in the mountains here.

Day 7Wednesday

On our last day, the destination is Nikkaluokta a 35 km stretch through valleys at the foot of Kebnekaise, having reached Nikkaluokta, we will be transferred back to the kennels where the dogs will be looked after and the equipment checked and stored. The night will be spent in same camp as your first night.

Day 8Thursday

Before your flight home, time permitting, we can drop you off at the Ice Hotel so you can look around Entrance cost of around £45 not included. If not, we will transfer you to the airport for your departure and flight home.
